Poll body’s sharp reaction to Congress’s ‘Haryana results unacceptable’ remark

A day after facing a crushing defeat in the Haryana polls, a delegation of Congress leaders will meet the Election Commission of India (ECI) today at 6 pm in Delhi.
The meeting comes after several Congress leaders expressed doubts about the process of counting votes in several constituencies.
The Election Commission, in a letter addressed to the Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, noted the statements of Congress leaders and the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, who called the results of the Haryana polls “unexpected” and proposed to analyse the polls.
“Proceeding on a fair assumption that the statement of the Party President is the formal party position on the electoral outcome, the ECI has agreed to meet the delegation today at 6 PM,” the letter reads.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi, in a post on X, hinted at a possible meeting with the poll body in an attempt to file a “complaint” against alleged faults in the EVM machines.
“We are analysing the unexpected result of Haryana. We will inform the Election Commission about the complaints coming from many Assembly constituencies. Heartfelt thanks to all the people of Haryana for their support and to our party workers for their tireless hard work. We will continue this fight for rights, for social and economic justice, for truth, and will keep raising your voice,” he said.
Turning the exit-poll predictions on its head, the BJP secured a massive win in the Haryana Assembly elections with 48 of the 90 seats. Meanwhile, failing to capitalise on the 10-year-old anti-incumbency against the BJP, Congress was able to garner 37 Assembly seats.
